Question:

How does the FIRC work and what are the prerequisites?

Answer:

The American Flyers Flight Instructor Refresher Course is a FAA approved program in accordance with Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations part 61 (14CFR section 61.197 (a) (2) (iii)). As per FAA regulations you must already hold an unexpired flight instructor certificate in order to renew and you must satisfactorily complete the course before your flight instructor certificate expires. You may still take the course if your flight instructor certificate has expired but upon completion you will not receive the graduation certificate necessary for renewal.

This course is designed in a book format to make your on-line learning experience as simple as possible. The book consists of 6 stages, also referred to as chapters, each of which culminates in a test. Each stage is broken into topics that deal with a specific subject and also incorporates web links, media files, pdf.(Adobe - Portable Document File) files and questions for additional correlated material. You will use these resources to supplement the information from the written text and gain a better understanding of what you've read. The appendix contains the Federal regulations for your reference throughout your course of study. In order to advance to the next stage you must:

Study the material to acquire the necessary knowledge.
Meet the minimum study requirement per stage.
Pass each test with a minimum grade of 70%.

Upon successful completion of the FIRC Internet Program American Flyers will receive a completion notice and authorize the issuance of your Graduation Certificate and Affidavit which will be provided online. This document will include your graduation certificate number, the official American Flyers seal and Signature of an American Flyers Representative. The Graduation Certificate and Affidavit form must be signed attesting to your personal and unassisted completion of this program. (back to top)
